How to play Sudoku

Sudoku is a logic puzzle played on a 9×9 grid divided into nine 3×3 boxes. Place the digits 1–9 so none repeats in any row, column or box. You never need maths – just careful reasoning.

  1. Choose a level – Medium, Hard or Tough. A new random puzzle is created instantly.
  2. Select a cell and tap a number (or type 1–9). Wrong numbers turn red.
  3. Use notes for candidates, hints when you are stuck, and undo any move.

Sudoku FAQ

What are the Sudoku rules?

Fill the 9×9 grid so that every row, every column and every 3×3 box contains each digit from 1 to 9 exactly once. Some digits are given at the start; you work out the rest by logic.

What is the difference between Medium, Hard and Tough?

Medium puzzles have 34 starting clues and can be solved with simple single-candidate logic. Hard puzzles have about 28 clues. Tough puzzles have only 24–25 clues and always need techniques beyond singles.

Does every puzzle have one solution?

Yes. Every puzzle is generated randomly and checked by a solver, so each one has exactly one valid solution – no guessing required.

What does auto-fill do?

When a row, column or 3×3 box has only one empty cell left, the last number is filled in for you automatically. One auto-fill can complete another line or box, so they can cascade.

Can I make pencil marks?

Yes. Turn on Notes (or press N) to add small candidate numbers to a cell. Notes are cleared automatically when you place that number elsewhere in the same row, column or box.
